24 Gauge Standing Seam Metal Roof Project

Learn why our 24 gauge standing seam metal roof option was a good fit for this screened in porch addition.

This client had a screened in porch added to his home and needed a roof, gutters and downspouts installed. During our initial inspection, we noticed that a few things needed to be considered in order to ensure we installed the most efficient roof and gutter solution possible. We learned from the client that they wanted to keep the right side of the porch as a BBQ area, so that needed to be clear of any downspouts or water run off from the new roof. We also discovered that the original gutters on the home that were hanging above the new addition were too small to absorb the rain water coming off the main roof line during heavy storms. This would have led to a large amount of water run-off, causing potential problems such as leaks in the future.

Keeping all of this in mind, we decided the best course of action was to install larger, 6" gutters in place of the original gutters and reroute them to flow towards the left side of the home. Because of the low slope of the new addition, we recommended a 24 gauge standing seam metal roof in the color, Dark Bronze. This type of roof does not have any exposed screw heads visible, which means they can not rust over time and allow for water intrusion. Further, a standing seam metal roof allows for proper water shedding on lower sloped roof lines so this was a great option for this project.
